Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy under scanner

Up until now, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has had a generally good reign. He has been captaining the squad for more than a year and has not lost a series. Suryakumar was praised for his tactical bowling adjustments in the fourth Twenty20 International against Australia. He used his wide range of alternatives to limit the formidable Australian batting lineup to just 119.

Mohammad Kaif, a former Indian cricket player, emphasized Suryakumar Yadav unpredictable nature as captain and pointed out that he doesn’t follow a set strategy. Kaif went on to say that Suryakumar Yadav is flexible in his choices regarding batting tactics and bowling rotations.

“As captain, I observe that Suryakumar Yadav is unwilling to proceed with any set plan.

He brings on Axar Patel, for instance, if a right-hander is on strike. He selects the bowler who can provide pressure in a given scenario, regardless of whether Washington Sundar is receiving any overs. Arshdeep Singh may only bowl two overs on a turning track, while the spinners may bowl more. Additionally, he stated in an interview that he employs bowlers according to the circumstances and pitch conditions in order to accomplish his goals,” Kaif posted on his YouTube channel.

A consistent aspect of Suryakumar’s leadership is his smart rearranging of the batting order. In an unexpected decision, he dropped his typical No. 3 position to make room for other players, adding Shivam Dube in the fourth and Sanju Samson in the third Twenty20 International.

Suryakumar would have won five straight bilateral series as skipper if India prevailed in the last Twenty20 International. Under his leadership, India has not only remained undefeated in the 2025 Asia Cup but has also swept off South Africa, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in separate bilateral series.

“The batting strategy follows the same methodology. Dube at No. 3: Why? Because the spinners were bowling when Abhishek Sharma was removed in the seventh over. With four overs remaining, Adam Zampa may have been bowled by Glenn Maxwell. Dube was sent because of his ability to handle spinners and hit huge shots. “He was allowed to make his own shots,” Kaif remarked.
