According to preliminary sources, explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav will miss the Mumbai Indians’ opening two IPL 2024 games. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) hasn’t allowed the hitter to join the Mumbai team as of yet since he hasn’t recovered to his full level of fitness. Though they won’t hurry him onto the pitch, BCCI officials are optimistic that the 33-year-old will play a considerable number of matches in the lucrative event because their main objective is to keep him fit for the T20 World Cup, which kicks off on June 1.
Suryakumar Yadav is progressing well, although he may need to miss a few more games, according to a person following the situation. Notably, in December 2023, the batter suffered an ankle injury. He then had a sports hernia operation in Europe. The cricket player quickly returned to NCA to continue his training, and he is currently being watched there.
Suryakumar Yadav is improving quickly, and he will soon be rejoining the MI team.
He did miss the first two games, though, so he could have to miss a couple more. If he stays on course for the World T20, which he is, that is the BCCI’s primary concern. He can’t be rushed after sports hernia surgery, but he will definitely play for MI, according to a BCCI source that The Times of India cited.

Mumbai Indians, however, have dropped both of their IPL 2024 games thus far. The five-time champions lost to the Gujarat Titans in their first game, and Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them in a run-fest at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in their second encounter. Mumbai has selected young player Naman Dhir in Suryakumar’s place; Dhir has performed admirably in the team’s first two games.
Suryakumar’s comeback to action for Mumbai is still unknown, but he is anticipated to play the full second leg. In the meantime, Mumbai’s third and first home game of the season will be against the Rajasthan Royals.
