In T20I cricket, Suryakumar Yadav was ranked as the top batsman some time ago. But his performances with the willow have been dismal ever since he assumed the captaincy of India in the shortest format halfway through 2024. With a meager average of 11.11 and a similarly dismal strike rate of 105.26, he has only amassed 100 runs from 11 innings in 2025.
Irfan Pathan has supported Suryakumar to halt his lackluster run in the format ahead of India’s upcoming T20 challenge, which is a five-match series against Australia. According to the former India all-rounder, the right-handed batsman hasn’t been able to convert his incredible IPL exploits into successful international cricket appearances.
“Suryakumar Yadav’s form is one issue. In recent T20Is, he has scored more runs than anyone else, and his strike rate has been about 166.
His average has recently fallen to about 20, though, and he hasn’t been turning starts into significant runs. On his YouTube channel, Pathan stated, “He hasn’t carried that into internationals, despite having excellent IPL record.
Because he will love batting on the fast-paced, bounce-rich Australian pitches, Pathan thinks the right-handed batsman will find his form again during the series against Australia.
“However, I think he will get his rhythm back with Australian pitches. He plays square of the wicket extremely effectively and excels at using the pace of the bowlers. Do you recall his first shot, which was a draw off Jofra Archer using his speed? It’s his signature. He might easily return to his previous level of performance if the bounce goes in his favor,” Pathan remarked.
On Wednesday, October 29, at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, the opening Twenty20 International of the five-match series will begin.
