"I understand how crucial fitness is for him" - Suryakumar supports Rohit amid fitness discussions.

After Indian National Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed made a comment regarding the veteran Rohit Sharma’s level of fitness, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav defended the veteran. Shama recently called Rohit “fat for a sportsperson” in a post on X that was removed after receiving a lot of negative feedback. “Lose weight” was another thing she needed him to do.

Suryakumar, Rohit’s teammate from India and Mumbai, praised both Rohit’s longevity as a player and his accomplishments as captain.

It is significant since, in the last four years, he has led the team to the finals of four ICC trophies. It is significant if a person has played cricket for 15 to 20 years. I am aware of how crucial fitness is to him. According to Hindustan Times, Suryakumar said, “I have seen him closely, he works very hard – in my opinion, he is at the top & I wish him all the best for the finals.”

Suryakumar was notably left off of the 15-man squad for India’s 2025 Champions Trophy campaign. He is presently supporting the team in the United Arab Emirates, though. On Sunday, March 9, India will play New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Rohit looks for atonement in the grand finale.

Speaking of Rohit’s recent accomplishments, last year he led India to their second T20 World Cup victory. After the thrilling final match against South Africa, Rohit declared his retirement from the T20I format, but not before becoming the tournament’s second-leading scorer with 257 runs in eight innings.

After failing to win the Cricket World Cup trophy in 2023, Rohit and company will like to win the Champions Trophy and cap off an impeccable season. India would become the first team to win the prestigious ODI competition three times if they win the final. In 2002, they shared first place, and in 2013, they emerged victorious.
