Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricket player, explained why he believed that 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi should not be given too much credit by both cricket experts and fans. Gavaskar’s remarks after the young sensation’s dismissal for a second-ball duck during Thursday, May 1st’s Rajasthan Royals vs. Mumbai Indians match.
Gavaskar highlighted Suryavanshi’s potential and emphasised that rational admiration is more important than anything else.
“Look, he had already made a century against Australia in a youth Test match, and that was against a really strong attack, before he went into the auction. Even though it wasn’t their best team, a 13-year-old scoring a century against an international team nonetheless demonstrates the boy’s skill. Since then, he has continued to talk endlessly. In an interview with JioHotstar, Gavaskar stated, “I do think that he is someone we shouldn’t praise to the skies.”
It shouldn’t turn into a standard that he feels he must always meet: Sunil Gavaskar
The well-known analyst believed that the young cricket player should focus on honing his natural style rather than becoming overwhelmed by the high expectations placed on him.
“In this instance, we simply get the impression that he smacked the first ball he faced for a six in his very first game. He shouldn’t feel pressured to live up to it every time, though. “Oh, he wants to hit the first ball for six?” will be the thought of seasoned bowlers. He might get out once they bowl it short. He might then begin to stress and overthink things,” Gavaskar continued.
Suryavanshi crushed his way to a magnificent hundred (101 off 38) against Gujarat Titans in just his third innings for RR. On Thursday, however, things did not turn out as planned. On the second delivery he encountered, Suryavanshi was discharged. While attempting to make the big shot over the fielder at the edge of the circle, the youthful player was caught at mid-on.
