Sunil Gavaskar
Prior to the highly anticipated 1st Test between India and South Africa at Centurion, the former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar provided his preferred Indian starting XI. Gavaskar’s selection for the tough clash reflects a combination of three pacers and two spinners, taking into account the anticipated advantage for fast bowlers on the field. When asked about his ideal selection, the cricket veteran recommended a well-balanced composition to effectively confront South Africa on their home ground.

Sunil Gavaskar selection approach seems to center around adjusting to the conditions, which is a vital element in the competition. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Team India is preparing to secure a momentous series triumph in South Africa. The user’s selection demonstrates a calculated combination of fast and slow bowling, in accordance with the expected requirements of the Centurion Test. This match is expected to offer an engaging contest between the batsmen and the bowlers.

“My selection of players for the starting eleven will be straightforward.” The opening batsmen for the team will consist of Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill should bat in the number three or number four position, while Virat Kohli should bat at number four. KL Rahul occupies the fifth position, while Shreyas Iyer occupies the sixth position, or they can interchange between the fifth and sixth positions. Subsequently, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will follow. Gavaskar mentioned the trio of fast bowlers, namely Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj, during his conversation with Star Sports.

Dilemma in the process of selecting for the decision-makers

The Test team of India, preparing for the forthcoming matches against South Africa, had unexpected diversions due to setbacks incurred by crucial players. Virat Kohli, a crucial and indispensable member of the squad, had to urgently return home due to a personal issue, causing apprehension over his potential participation in the series opening on December 26. Despite the BCCI’s reluctance to disclose the details of Kohli’s position, insiders suggest that he is likely to make a comeback before the key test.

The absence of Mohammed Shami, who was unable to participate due to an ankle injury, added to the already existing difficulties in the pace bowling division. Due to a finger injury, the selectors were compelled to remove opener Ruturaj Gaikwad after overcoming many obstacles. These obstacles occurred after Deepak Chahar’s prior resignation from the ODI series owing to personal circumstances, resulting in several changes to the team.
