T20 World Cup 2024: Sunil Gavaskar names Hardik Pandya as second seamer for India
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar suggested the ideal bowling lineup for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue play Ireland in New York on June 5 in the main event of the campaign.

India has selected two seam bowling all-rounders, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya, for their 15-man roster. With Jasprit Bumrah as the only specialist seamer, Gavaskar suggested that the former be utilised as the playing XI’s second fast bowler. Furthermore, though he did not identify them, the former captain of India pushed the first-ever champions to include three spinners in their starting lineup.

The key to India’s ability to field three spinners and two fast bowlers against the West Indies is a well-balanced bowling attack, with Hardik Pandya serving as a backup fast bowler. In an interview, Sunil Gavaskar told Dainik Jagran, “I believe this will maintain the team’s balance.”

The former cricket player was requested to speak for India’s team for the major occasion. Gavaskar claims that the Rohit Sharma-led team has a great balance of youth and experience. Despite the fact that all four teams appeared evenly matched going into the event, Gavaskar declined to pick the semifinalists.

“I think there’s a decent balance between youth and experience on this team. The batting icon said, “Young players like Yashasvi, Rishabh, and Shivam, in addition to Rohit, Virat, Surya, and Bumrah, add strength to the team.”

“It cannot be said who the four semi-finalists will be because, in my view, all the teams look balanced,” remarked the 74-year-old.

India is grouped with Pakistan, the USA, Canada, Ireland, and Pakistan. On Saturday, June 1, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, the first-time champions will take on Bangladesh in a single practice match.

India fell to eventual winners England in the semi-final of the previous tournament in 2022 by a margin of 10 wickets. The Asian heavyweights would like to go the distance this year and break India’s aeons-long title drought in the ICC.
