'Shows his dedication' - Sunil Gavaskar lauds Virat Kohli as he goes to nets after pink-ball Test loss

India lost by 10 wickets on Sunday, December 8, in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval to Australia, captained by Pat Cummins. Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, walked to the nets shortly after the disappointing outcome to begin preparing for the third Test, which will begin on December 14 at the Gabba in Brisbane.

After a terrible run of red-ball cricket form, Kohli entered the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. In the opening innings of the first Test match in Perth, he was removed cheaply. In the second, though, he recovered admirably by scoring his 30th century in the game’s longest format. After the morale-boosting knock, India would have hoped that he would continue to improve. He was dismissed for seven and eleven runs in the two innings, though, so that was not to be in Adelaide.

Virat Kohli made the decision to start getting ready for the upcoming match, and the legendary Sunil Gavaskar commended him for his commitment.

The former cricket player turned commentator hopes that more athletes will one day demonstrate the same level of commitment. In addition, he claimed that Kohli may return to the pitch in Brisbane.

“He demonstrated his passion by going out in the nets today. But I want everyone else to do that. He hasn’t scored any runs. India Today cited Gavaskar as stating, “He is out in the nets because he hasn’t scored runs in this game, and he is very proud of what he achieves and does for India.”

“You want to see him working hard and perspiring. After that, it won’t be an issue if you leave, as it is the main goal of sports. One day you will score runs, the next day you will take wickets, and the day after that, you won’t. But you must work for it. He is making the effort and putting in the hard yards, so I won’t be shocked if he returns to the lineup in the upcoming game,” he continued.
