In the ODI World Cup, Sunil Gavaskar discusses why Ravichandran Ashwin will be crucial for India.

Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricketer for India, has suggested that Ravichandran Ashwin would be crucial to the success of the Indian squad at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the two-time champions will open their campaign against Australia on October 8.

Following a last-minute roster addition by management, Ashwin will play in the major tournament for the third time. Axar Patel, who suffered a quadriceps injury and was forced to withdraw from the event, was replaced on the team by the seasoned off-spinner.

India’s team includes some effective pacers, according to Sunil Gavaskar, who called them “world-class bowlers.”

Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are the first players to use the new ball…These three bowlers are of the highest caliber, though I’m not sure if they’ll all compete in the World Cup. In Rajkot, we witnessed Bumrah getting a little battered by Australia. He is too seasoned a bowler to make those errors again,” Gavaskar was cited by India Today as saying.

The 74-year-old continued by saying that India’s middle overs performance might be greatly aided by Ashwin. According to the former cricketer, the spinner won’t let the opposition develop substantial partnerships because India can force a team to score less.

“But don’t worry about it. It is during the middle overs that players can play through the line when the ball is not deviating, turning, or bouncing. And Ashwin’s experience and cunning will be a crucial component in this situation. I’m not sure if they will use him in the starting lineup for the important games, but he is the kind of bowler that can truly bring you wickets in the middle overs, which prevents partnerships from developing and ultimately limits a side to a low total.
