Legendary cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan agree that 2023 will go down in history as a great year for Indian cricket. The journey in cricket included exhilarating wins, devastating losses, and memorable moments that touched fans all throughout the country.
Renowned cricketer Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the women’s team’s victories, saying that the year was outstanding for both the men’s and women’s teams, especially the latter after Women in Blue played so well.
He said on the Star Sports program “Follow the Blues” that “I think it’s been a fantastic year for both the men’s and the women’s teams, particularly the way the women’s team has performed.”
Following a close loss to Australia in the T20 World Cup semifinal, the women’s squad showed resiliency and won gold in the Asian Games. Sunil Gavaskar praised the remarkable back-to-back Test victories over cricket powerhouses England and Australia, calling it the most exciting event of the year.
“The Indian women’s squad had difficult difficulties early in the year against both Australia and England, the opponents of the two Test victories towards the close of the year. Aside from what we witnessed during the World Cup, that has been the most thrilling element of cricket. After ten consecutive victories, there was that one awful day, which ironically transpired to be the World Cup finals. There will be a lot of interesting things in 2023, Gavaskar continued.
