‘Don’t think about Australia’ - Sunil Gavaskar's clear message to India for ongoing NZ series

Prior to the Bangladesh series, there were discussions over India’s potential approach to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is scheduled to start on November 22. Some Australian cricket players have been discussing the issue for a while, and the Indian media hasn’t held back when questioning the Indian players about their preparations for the next, highly anticipated series.

Meanwhile, the team captained by Rohit Sharma lost the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru and is currently in a very bad position going into the second match in Pune. India faces its first home Test series loss in 12 years, with the BlackCaps ahead by 301 runs at the end of Day 2.

In his commentary on Day 2, cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar said the Indian players should focus on New Zealand instead of the upcoming Australia series.

Don’t discuss Australia right now. Many people make that error far too frequently. You must be concerned about what is now taking place. You should simply pay attention to the current situation. Australia will manage on its own. In an interview with Sports18, Gavaskar stated, “You will discover the ways to defeat Australia.”

The former cricket player later explained that although the players are attempting to concentrate on the match, the media is hyping the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“It’s not the athletes. The game is the main focus of the players. It’s the media and everyone else discussing Australia that are in the circle. The next events in Australia are being covered extensively,” he continued.

The senior hitters for India are struggling in the series against New Zealand, in the meantime. In the first Test, Virat Kohli and Rohit both made half-centuries in the second innings, but a significant knock is still lacking.

KL Rahul, the other senior player, was benched, and it will be difficult for him to return to the starting lineup if Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant continue to play well.
