Day 5 of the second Test of the Ashes 2023 has been a lot of fun for fans because there have been a lot of exciting moments. But Alex Carey’s controversial sacking of Jonny Bairstow was the most talked-about thing that happened that day. The English wicketkeeper left the ball to talk to Ben Stokes at the other end, and when he came back, the Australian wicketkeeper ran him out.

Carey saw an opening and hit the stumps to get the batsman out. This did not go over well with the England players or the crowd. After Bairstow was thrown out, Stuart Broad walked out to bat and even talked to Carey.

On the stump mic, Stuart Broad was heard saying, “That’s how people will always remember you.”

Then he could be heard talking to the captain of Australia’s team, Pat Cummins.

When he got to the crease, the tall pacer told the Australian captain, “That is literally the worst thing I’ve ever seen in cricket.”

Everyone in cricket has different opinions about the decision. Some say it goes against the spirit of the game, while others say it’s fine under the rules. Brad Hogg, who used to be a spinner for Australia, said that it went against the spirit of the game.

Hogg posted on Twitter: “Bairstow wicket, not out. Cricket spirit was pushed to the limit. Not trying to run, end of over, scratched line, then walked for the usual BS chat between batsmen #ashes #ENGvsAUS.”

Ben Stokes’ captain’s knock on Day 5 kept England in the game.
England, on the other hand, was in trouble after Bairstow was out. They were 193/6 and needed 178 runs to win. But captain Ben Stokes took the responsibility on himself and turned on his “beast mode” to attack Australia. When Bairstow was out, the 32-year-old was on 62* (126), and he scored his next 38 runs in 16 balls. He reached his hundred in 142 balls.

The England captain got to 150 by hitting nine fours and nine sixes in a row. He did this with 197 balls. For the seventh wicket, Stokes and Broad added more than 100 runs, which brought Australia closer to winning.
