Ollie Pope, the interim captain of England, recently gave a superb effort against Sri Lanka. Pope helped England achieve 221 runs on Day 1 of the third Test with a superb 103* runs that he scored while playing. After a run of poor performances, Pope, standing in for regular captain Ben Stokes, was under a lot of strain.
He scored his sixth century in Test cricket against Sri Lanka on the opening day, and his display at The Oval drew a lot of attention, including that of former bowler Stuart Broad.
Speaking on Pope, Stuart Broad emphasised how playing in a familiar environment allowed Pope to find his form again.
“I believe that returning home to see him bat so well is the ideal solution if you’re having trouble with form or rhythm. Because he is a top-notch player, The Oval would have been his choice if he could have batted anywhere in these conditions. “Once he gains access, he will invariably exact revenge,” Broad stated to Sky Sports Cricket.

Ollie Pope was also praised by former England captain Nasser Hussain for coming up and playing when his team needed him to.
He had a strong start to the summer but gradually lost it. I appreciated how he approached his game. Hussain stated, “He was being aggressive and forcing himself forward, getting into better defensive positions.”
“It helps that he enjoys this terrain when you arrive here a little out of nick. He continued, “That was a unique occasion for him.

The third Test between Sri Lanka and England did not play to its full potential on Day 1. With just 44.1 overs bowled, bad light brought the day to an end. England stayed in complete control the entire day, and they planned to carry on their performance on Day 2.
