Stokes’ England Slammed by Former All-Rounder After Perth Collapse

According to Ian Botham, Ben Stokes and Joe Root will be itching to win in Australia because this might be their final trip there.

The former cricket player who is now a commentator said that if Root and Stokes lose the current Ashes tour, it will permanently damage their reputations.

The great Ian Botham criticised England’s poor performance and bemoaned the team’s attitude of playing extremely aggressive cricket even when it’s necessary to drag it out. His comments follow the Three Lions’ defeat in the first Ashes Test at Perth’s Optus Stadium in two days.

Botham stated that in order to overcome the formidable Australian team, England must act swiftly and try to turn the tide. For the first time since 2015, the tourists hope to recapture the cherished Ashes urn.

“There is no other way to describe it—it was terrible. England must get going as soon as possible. “This is the way we play” is something I’m tired of hearing. Botham told PA News Agency, “I think I’ll throw something at the television if I hear it again.”

Additionally, Botham cautioned the England squad that if they didn’t change their strategy, they could lose the five-match series 0–5.

“You might as well go now since it’s going to be 5-0 if that’s how you play. I’m sure they won’t like what I’m saying, but they must understand. Botham remarked, “When I see people wearing that jumper, I want more pride.”

Because of what you did over here, people remember you: Botham

“What you did over here is what people remember about you. We have two elite players in Joe and Ben—Joe, for crying out loud, has 39 hundreds—but they are keen to make an impression. Winning is the only way to achieve it. Botham stated, “They must get the monkey off their back.”

Since many of the others will get another bite at the cherry, they are the two who will want this the most. From personal experience, I can tell you that winning here is incredibly satisfying and carries with it complete respect. Every time you defeat Australia, it’s a fantastic day, so I can’t say that I have a favourite moment. England should be motivated by that alone,” he continued.

On Thursday, December 4, Australia and England begin their much anticipated second Test match at Brisbane’s The Gabba.
