Steve Waugh's harsh counsel to India skipper Rohit Sharma was, "He has to look himself in the mirror."

Legendary cricketer Steve Waugh has spoken out about Rohit Sharma’s chances of succeeding internationally and if he should captain India in Test matches or concentrate only on his batting. India’s ODI and Test captain, Rohit, has been having form issues for a while. He has only made one half-century in his last 15 innings of Test cricket, which is incredibly low for a batter of his calibre.

The Mumbai batsman was at his worst even in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He didn’t perform in the three matches he played, and subsequently dropped himself from the last Test, asking Jasprit Bumrah to lead instead. The former captain of Australia brought up a crucial point regarding the top Indian cricket player. He believes that Rohit needs to talk to himself and reevaluate his form and performance in red-ball cricket.

“He has complete control over it. That problem can only be resolved by him. He has got to look himself in the mirror and say, ‘Do I still want to be captain or play for India? Am I devoted? Do I devote enough time and energy to it? Playing for your country is an honour and a privilege. “You can’t be relaxed or complacent,” News18 cited him as saying.

According to Steve Waugh, test cricket is the essence of the game.

Steve Waugh also discussed the competition that T20 cricket is currently experiencing in Test cricket. The sport’s smallest version is fast-paced, thrilling, and fascinating all at once. But as a sport, Test cricket is essential. The World Cup-winning skipper added that it’s critical to maintain the Test format’s “healthy” state.

We need Test cricket as a sport, so there is concern about its survival. Test cricket, in my opinion, is still the pinnacle of cricket, even though Twenty20 cricket is fantastic for players, fans, and sponsors. I think the athletes are still interested in playing Tests to see their true potential. It’s the last competition. It’s crucial to ensure its survival, well-being, and prosperity,” Steve Waugh continued.
