Former Australian captain Steve Waugh says that India vs. Pakistan is more than just a cricket match.

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh offered his opinions on the tournament’s title contenders as the ICC Champions Trophy got underway. On Sunday, February 23, India and Pakistan will square off in the much awaited competition. India enters the match with a win under their belt, while defending champions Pakistan enter after losing.

Steve Waugh stated, “Obviously, India, in those conditions, are favorites,” as South Africa, New Zealand, and India all had strong starts. The team from New Zealand is quite good. Australia is usually competitive in these events, so you can’t write them off, therefore I would never undervalue them. “Pakistan and England are both very capable of doing things,” he remarked.

On Sunday, February 23, India and Pakistan will square off in the much awaited competition. India enters the match with a win under their belt, while defending champions Pakistan enter after losing.

“It’s not just a cricket game. It’s a big occasion. Every time India and Pakistan compete, it’s a highly unpredictable, global event. There is a lot of skill on both sides, and you can never be sure what will happen. In general, I believe India is the favorite. However, compared to Test cricket, one-day and T20 cricket are far more unpredictable.

According to Steve Waugh, a single individual can have a fantastic game and impact the outcome for their team.

“Shubman Gill is a very good player; he just got a hundred.” There is, of course, Kohli. These are well-known names. Over the past 12 months, Pakistan has seen both hot and cold temperatures. You’re not sure which Pakistani side will show up because they can do some very amazing things. Although India is the favorite, I wouldn’t be shocked if Pakistan prevailed in that match. He went on.

Steve Waugh stated, “This series is going to be a real test,” in reference to Australia’s chances. Since Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood have been the cornerstones of our bowling for the past five to ten years, their absence opens the door for new players to enter the game. Spencer Johnson moves at a good clip, and he still has some experience working with people like Sean Abbott.

Even if they haven’t played as much, some players have played a lot of cricket worldwide. Therefore, I believe it provides them a chance. Adam Zampa can share his knowledge because he has been a consistent player for Australia in one-day cricket for many years. Steve Smith is an accomplished captain with many years of experience. They need to step up in this series, but they have enough talent. And without the big three, it will be a good test for him. We’ll discover what kind of depth Australia has.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust sponsored the Laureus Sport for Good Mental Health & Wellbeing Forum, which brought together athletes from three continents, including Steve Waugh.

The Forum included a diverse range of sportsmen from throughout the world, including eight-time world squash champion Nicol David, Australian cricket legend Steve Waugh, and Chinese Olympic speed skating champion Yang Yang. Victoria Pendleton, a two-time Olympic cycling gold medallist and Laureus Ambassador, was also in attendance, along with Sean Dyche, a former manager of English professional football teams Everton and Burnley and a member of the League Managers Association, which is associated with Laureus.
