In the current fourth game of the five-match series between England and India, star batsman KL Rahul passed the 1000-run milestone in Test matches in England. On Day 1 of the current match, which is being played at the storied Old Trafford in Manchester, he hit a single on the first ball of the 19th over of India’s first innings to reach his 1000th run.
KL Rahul is currently just the second Indian Test opener to score more than four hundred runs in a foreign nation. He stands next to Sunil Gavaskar, the renowned batter. When he retired from international cricket, the Mumbai native had amassed more than 1000 runs in the West Indies (1404), England (1152), and Pakistan (1001).
Only a few of KL Rahul 25 Test innings played in England thus far have been as a non-opener. Both of these incidents occurred during the 2018 tour, which was his first Test match in the nation. In the two innings, he managed just four and thirteen runs, respectively.
KL Rahul England Test record:
Matches | Innings | Average | Strike Rate | Runs |
13* | 25 | 42.87 | 53.12 | 1029* |
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal have a dominant first session together.
On the ninth delivery he faced in the innings, the Karnataka batsman hit his maiden boundary off a pull in front of square. Chris Woakes was the source of his second four. Brydon Carse hit some brilliant boundaries through the off side for Rahul’s third and fourth runs. With his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal (34*) still by his side, the 33-year-old had hit 40 of India’s 78 runs at lunchtime.
Rahul has scored two hundreds and one fifty in the three games played thus far in the series. The seasoned batsman has been very at ease against the English bowling assault, with just one single-digit score (2 in the 2nd Test, Edgbaston). In the game’s longest format, India’s openers had a fifty-plus stand in Manchester for the first time since 1946.
