On June 3, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is hosting the IP) 2025 Final. Both Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are hoping to win their first IPL championship this year.
Three times before, in 2009, 2011, and 2016, RCB made it to the IPL final. Additionally, they participated in the Champions League T20 final in 2011. Interestingly, RCB has chased a target and lost in each of the four finals they have played in thus far.
When RCB played the Deccan Chargers (DC) in 2009, it was their first final appearance.
With the assistance of Herschelle Gibbs (53*), DC set a goal of 143 runs. Anil Kumble of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru had an outstanding stint, taking four wickets in his four overs. But the team lost by six runs and missed the championship by a slim margin.
When Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2011 final, the latter amassed a commanding 205 runs thanks to a strong batting performance from Michael Hussey (63), and Murali Vijay (95). RCB lost by 58 runs after struggling in the chase.
When Royal Challengers Bengaluru met the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2011 Champions League T20 final, they had another chance to win a trophy. They fell short by 31 runs after collapsing under duress while chasing a modest mark of 140. They were bowled out for just 108.
RCB faced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2016 final. They managed to score 208 thanks to the services of Yuvraj Singh, Ben Cutting, and David Warner (69). Virat Kohli (54), and Chris Gayle (76), got off to a fast start, but RCB lost by eight runs in yet another devastating loss.
Supporters of RCB were hoping that they would finally end their title drought and bring home the trophy when they batted first in the IPL 2025 final.
