As the Sydney Sixers prepare for the Big Bash League (BBL) final, Australia’s pace superstar Mitchell Starc has expressed his excitement and hunger, stating that he and Steve Smith still have a lot to offer despite a busy schedule.
Starc took two crucial wickets to help secure the victory and set up an exciting matchup as part of the Sixers’ emphatic Challenger triumph that eliminated the reigning champions Hobart Hurricanes from the competition. With the victory, the Sixers will play the Perth Scorchers, one of the most intense rivalries in BBL history.
The seasoned left-armer, who just finished a lengthy Ashes series, has not slowed down despite travelling across the nation and playing several games in quick succession without much recuperation. Starc had a lot to say about his body and his intellect.
“There are four overs left. This week, there will be four games and twenty hours on the plane. Everything is fine since Steve and I still have another game in us. After the victory, he remarked, “The two old boys have a final to play, and then we’re feet up.”
Starc also reminisced on his first Big Bash League experience, when, at the age of 21, he starred in the Sixers’ first-ever championship victory at the WACA against the same opponents. Now, fifteen years after the historic triumph, he and his seasoned teammates want to capitalise on that moment.
“Steve, ‘Moey’ (Moises Henriques), and I were there in the first year, so I have good recollections of that year, when we clearly defeated Perth to win the title over in the West. Perhaps we could call upon some of that.
We know what we’re in for because we played them a few nights ago,” Starc was cited by cricket.com.au as saying.
The left-arm bowler, who finished the series as the greatest wicket-taker and Player of the Series, played a crucial role in Australia’s crushing Ashes 2025–26 triumph against England. The 35-year-old and Smith had committed to attempt and win the BBL for the Sixers after concluding the Ashes.
Once more, the Sydney Sixers vs. Perth Scorchers final
With Sunday’s matchup being the two teams’ incredible sixth BBL final, the BBL 2025–26 finals is sure to be another matchup between two heavyweights. Additionally, they were the league’s first-ever finalists.
The Sydney Sixers have won the title three times, while the Perth-based squad has won a record five titles, making them the most successful side in Big Bash history.
