Mitchell Starc, Australia’s top fast bowler, stated that he has no plans to retire from Test cricket after putting on an outstanding performance in the team’s 4-1 Ashes series victory. With 31 wickets, the left-arm veteran played a key role in the series victory.
He claimed that the idea of donning the coveted Baggy Green and helping the squad succeed keeps him inspired. Starc clarified that he hasn’t even had time to consider retirement, refuting the claims that he will be retiring from Test cricket.
“Obviously, I haven’t had time to consider it yet. Wearing a baggy green is, in my opinion, enough motivation to keep going. “I’d love to keep going out there and giving it my all for the team, even though I feel like I can still play a part in this group,” Starc told SEN Cricket.
The speedster talked about his life after retiring from T20I cricket and how it is keeping him fit for Test matches during the press conference held after the game. He added that he will be rooting for the Kangaroos even if he won’t be competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
“I won’t miss boarding that plane, but I will be following the boys in India.” Yes, that’s part of the reason I gave up the T20 stuff; I wanted to extend my test career, feel like I could get some possibilities, and give myself some time. And this series has clearly benefited from that. I’ve felt worse on the final day of a five-test series than I have this series, though that’s not usually the case,” Starc said.
A candidate for ICC Player of the Month is Starc.
Starc’s outstanding Ashes run has also earned him a spot on the shortlist for the December 2025 ICC Men’s Player of the Month award. Jacob Duffy, a pacer from New Zealand, and Justin Greaves, an all-rounder from the West Indies, join him.
Greaves scored 283 runs at an average of 56.60 in three Test matches during his amazing tour to New Zealand, including an undefeated 202* in Christchurch. On the other hand, New Zealand bowler Duffy, who took 23 wickets at an average of 15.43, dominated the home series against the West Indies.
