Reports: SRK engaged in a heated dispute with Ness Wadia at the IPL owners' meeting

The choice to move forward with a mega auction was the main source of disagreement. A lot of people, including Kolkata Knight Riders star SRK, have expressed their disapproval of the idea of holding a massive auction for the 18th Indian Premier League, which is slated to take place in 2025, according to reports from

The issue of defaulting foreign players was on the agenda for the highly anticipated meeting between BCCI officials and the owners of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. However, the events that transpired on Wednesday evening diverged greatly from this expectation.

The decision about whether to move forward with the mega auction will ultimately affect how many players are retained, as was previously understood. However, this discussion has been taking place during the IPL owners’ meeting at the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) headquarters, which is situated at the Cricket Centre in Churchgate, Mumbai.

According to reports, SRK and Ness Wadia, the co-owner of the Punjab Kings, were once deeply at odds.

It is known that Shah Rukh supported keeping players on the team, but Wadia was thought to be against keeping players on the team for too long.

The decision on the mega auction—whether to hold it or not—will eventually affect how many players are retained. If the BCCI decides not to hold the massive auction, retentions might not even be necessary.

Owner of SRH, Kavya Maran, gave KKR support by stating that building a team takes time and emphasised how long the process is. She emphasised the need to devote time and money to developing younger players, using Abhishek Sharma as a shining example to support her position.

“As was previously mentioned, developing a roster takes a significant amount of time, as does the investment of time required for the younger players to reach maturity. Abhishek Sharma’s performances have been inconsistent during the past three years. After the meeting, Kavya said, “You would agree that there are many such situations in other teams too.

The Delhi Capitals’ Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Parth Jindal, the Lucknow Super Giants’ Sanjiv Goenka, the Chennai Super Kings’ Rupa Gurunath, the Rajasthan Royals’ Manoj Badale, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Prathmesh Mishra were among the other owners in attendance. Moreover, other owners took part virtually through video conferences, such as the Mumbai Indians’ Ambanis.

Jindal also gave his opinion, stating that he was surprised by the current discussion around the mega auction because he was in favour of it. He added that there was some disagreement among the franchises about whether the Impact Player regulation should be kept in place, with DC being against it. Jindal affirmed that by the end of August, the BCCI would give the franchisees clarification on the regulations.

“I find it surprising that there was a discussion on whether to keep holding the large auction in the first place. Personally, I think it’s good. According to Jindal, there was a discussion on the Impact Player rule involving various franchise perspectives, with DC taking a negative stance. “The Impact Player rule hinders the development of all-round players,” Jindal stated.
