Before to the UK, a Sri Lankan squad expresses security worries due to ongoing unrest in the nation

Many locations in the United Kingdom have been rocked by anti-immigrant riots, which has negatively impacted the chances for the Sri Lankan team to visit the nation. They are going to play England in the three-match Test series that starts on August 21. Prior to entering the nation for pre-series training, the Sri Lankan team voiced worries about security, and the players who are now there have also showed signs of unease.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been guaranteed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) of appropriate security arrangements.

The group, which consists of two support personnel and nine players, is scheduled to depart for London and has requested improved security upon their arrival.

“While everyone is still a little anxious, the most of the concerns don’t seem to be related to where we are. Really, we’re not able to go out to supper or do anything similar. Our motel stays are the norm. Nobody desires trouble or to be physically assaulted. We’ve requested the board to try to get some security for us till the main team gets here, but we haven’t heard anything back as of yet,” an-quoted Sri Lankan player in England stated.

A security liaison will accompany us on the tour: The Halangoda

The first Test between Sri Lanka and England is scheduled for August 21 in Manchester. Mahinda Halangoda, the manager of the Sri Lankan team, has expressed regret after seeing stories of rioting in Manchester and is planning to visit with a group of players and staff members to the UK. After a fierce battle at Lord’s for the second Test starting on August 29, both sides will conclude the tour at The Oval on September 10 at the latest.

“After I brought up the matter with them, the ECB promptly replied and sent us their thorough security plans. They will also have a security liaison accompany us on the visit, added Halangoda.
