Better pressure management is required of Sri Lankan players, as is more awareness of cricket. Sanat Jayasuriya

The Sri Lankan Lions were thoroughly defeated in the three-match Twenty20 International series against India, which did not bode well for interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka. When Charith Asalanka’s team plays the Men in Blue in the three-match ODI series, which begins on Friday, August 2, they will be hoping for a much better showing.

According to Jayasuriya, his players’ commitment is unwavering. He did, however, acknowledge that they still needed to improve their ability to handle pressure, and he gave his word that the coaching staff would help them every step of the way.

“They need to handle pressure better, but I don’t sense a lack of devotion. They also need to hone their awareness of cricket. You cannot escape the responsibilities that we are taking on. We will need to continue offering them confidence and assistance as long as they acknowledge this, Jayasuriya was cited by India Today as adding.

The former captain of Sri Lanka stated that instead of concentrating just on hitting sixes, players should concentrate on getting the balls into the gaps on the larger Sri Lankan fields.

“I don’t think you need that much when you talk about power hitting. You can obtain the required amount by hitting enough twos and fours. The grounds in Sri Lanka are slightly larger. You can strike boundaries, twos, or threes without any problems. You can get by without hitting so many sixes if you can accomplish it.”

Charith Asalanka speaks clearly and with great professionalism: Sanat Jayasuriya

Asalanka, the recently appointed white-ball captain, has received a lot of appreciation from Jayasuriya, who also asked the other players and support personnel to help him transition into the role as smoothly as possible.

“We must keep in mind that one of our greatest players in this style is Charith Asalanka. But there’s pressure when you take up the captaincy. I have also been there. In that situation, you have to give them some time,” Jayasuriya remarked.

“There are sixteen players in the squad and 10 additional players in the side. We must all come together and offer him the assurance he needs. The skipper could click at any time. Charith Asalanka is an extremely hard worker. The 55-year-old continued, “He communicates well and is quite professional.
