A squad of 17 players has been announced by Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket side for the forthcoming ODI Tri-Nation Series against South Africa and India, which is scheduled to start in Colombo on April 27. Sri Lanka will field a squad with a few changes from their recent tour of New Zealand, including the addition of three uncapped players, for the series, which is a crucial component of their preparation for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Three uncapped players—a 24-year-old spinner named Malki Madara, a 19-year-old all-rounder named Dewmi Vihanga, and a 29-year-old all-rounder named Piumi Badalge—are the squad’s largest change. The team that toured New Zealand earlier this year saw six changes, including these three.
Madara has been called up to the ODI team after making a sensational debut with a game-winning three-wicket haul during the T20I series against New Zealand. In the meanwhile, numerous seasoned players have returned to Sri Lanka. Hasini Perera, Hansima Karunaratne, and veteran spinner Inoka Ranaweera have all been summoned back to the team.
With captain Chamari Athapaththu taking up the captaincy responsibilities, Sri Lanka’s batting lineup stays consistent. In addition to her, Nilakshika Silva, Harshitha Samarawickrama, and Vishmi Gunaratne are also anticipated to play well in the middle order.
A number of well-known all-rounders are also included in the team, including the standout pair of Anushka Sanjeewani and Kavisha Dilhari. Both will play a significant role in the tri-series and have been essential to Sri Lanka’s recent success.
Another player added to the team is Manudi Nanayakkara, 17, who made an impression during the New Zealand tour with a fast 35. Achini Kulasuriya and Rashmika Sewwandi will be in charge of the fast-bowling assault, and both players will be looking to have a big influence.
All of the matches of the tri-series will take place at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium between April 27 and May 11.
