The remainder of Sri Lanka Due to widespread demonstrations in Islamabad by members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a political organization led by former Pakistan captain and prime leader Imran Khan, A’s tour of Pakistan has been indefinitely postponed. The Rawalpindi Cricket Ground, an international cricket ground in Rawalpindi, was to host the two final 50-over matches on November 27 and 29.
The PCB clarified that “political activity” in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, was the reason for the postponement.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board, in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket,
has postponed the last two 50-over matches of the Pakistan Shaheens-Sri Lanka A series due to a political activity in the federal capital,” the statement added.
“The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was to host the final two games on Wednesday and Friday. The cricket governing body also stated that the two boards will work together to decide on alternative dates to finish the series.
Since last week, the PCB has been concerned about the effects of the PTI protests on the series. It declared a few days ago that the inaugural one-day event, originally scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground, would now take place at the Islamabad Club.
According to the PCB, the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground would have hosted the second and third 50-over matches on November 27 and 29, as originally scheduled. The first encounter’s venue had to be changed since it was set for November 25, the day after Imran Khan made what he called a “final call” for his supporters to march to the capital to seek his release from prison, among other things. Conflicts and acts of violence between demonstrators and law enforcement have reportedly occurred.
The federal administration and Imran’s supporters are at a standstill as a result of the protests. Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the PCB and the nation’s interior minister, has also taken notice of it. According to him, the army was called in to help bring the situation under control.
Two unofficial Test matches kicked off Sri Lanka A’s visit of Pakistan earlier this month. The first match was won by Pakistan A by seven wickets, and the second match resulted in a tie. The two games took place at Rawalpindi. The host team won
the opening one-day match by a commanding 108-run margin. Pakistan is disappointed by the series postponement, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding the 2025 Champions Trophy hosting.
