Heinrich Klaasen, a star batsman and wicketkeeper, has been left off of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) core contract list for the 2025–2026 campaign. Heinrich Klaasen focus on T20 tournaments throughout the world suggests that his professional ambitions may have changed, but CSA affirmed that talks about his future are still underway and that a final decision would be made when the time is right.
During the previous contract cycle, Heinrich Klaasen, who retired from Test cricket in January 2024, was solely playing white-ball cricket. The 32-year-old is thought to be leaning towards a league-centric schedule because T20 leagues offer both financial and personal wiggle room. Other veteran players, such as Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller, have opted for a hybrid deal. Players can participate in certain bilateral series and ICC tournaments thanks to these agreements.
Notably, all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy, seam bowler Lizaad Williams, who is still recovering from knee surgery, and 18-year-old left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka, who made his debut in all forms last season, have all been given contracts for the first time. The players that received mid-season promotions in 2024–2025—Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, and Wiaan Mulder—have been kept on. Despite missing the entire season because of a stress fracture, Nandre Burger has also maintained his position.
The Proteas, meanwhile, have a full schedule that includes home series against the West Indies as well as visits to Zimbabwe, Australia, England, Pakistan, and India. They will also play in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, as well as the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.
