South Africa vs. India, ODI World Cup 2023, Match 37: Statistics A Sneak Peak at Players' Records and Upcoming Milestones

South Africa (SA) and India (IND) are the two teams leading this event and have the most successful lineups thus far. In the 37th match of the current World Cup, they will play against one another. On Sunday, November 5, 2023, the game is slated to take place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

When it comes to South Africa, they are at their best, particularly when it comes to batting. With a 400-run first-match total, the Proteas have started their campaign in a most fashionable fashion. They have only lost once, against the Netherlands, out of a total of 7 games, winning 6 of them with great ease. They have won their matches against England, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. South Africa just triumphed over New Zealand by a commanding margin of 190 runs.

Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen’s centuries helped the Proteas amass a respectable 357 runs when they batted first. Rassie scored 133 runs and Quinton scored 114 runs to lead the squad in scoring. David Miller contributed 53 runs in the final over to assist reach the impressive score, making a significant cameo. Keshav Maharaj was outstanding in the bowling department, claiming 4 wickets, followed by Marco Jansen with 3 and Gerald Coetzee with 2. South Africa won the match by a margin of 190 runs thanks to their combined efforts.

Conversely, the 2011 ODI World Cup champions, the Men in Blue, are likewise at the top of the standings with 14 points, having won all seven of their games in this competition. With wins over Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka in their first seven matches, they have a strong record in recent ICC competitions. They have not only triumphed in all seven games, but they have done so with ease and conviction.

The Men in Blue triumphed over Sri Lanka by a commanding score of 302 runs in their previous encounter. The Men in Blue chose to bat first and lost Rohit Sharma on the second delivery of the game, leaving them with just 4 runs scored. After that, Kohli and Gill shared an outstanding 189 runs in partnership. Both Gill and Kohli came close to reaching their hundreds with 92 and 88 runs respectively. With 82 more runs by Shreyas Iyer and 35 more from Jadeja’s late cameo, India amassed 357 runs.

Bumrah and Siraj had things going rather well in the bowling department. As India’s seamers once again demonstrated their abilities and produced top-notch bowling, the top three of the four Sri Lankan hitters were removed without scoring. Jasprit Bumrah also got a wicket during Mohammed Siraj’s remarkable stint, which saw him finish with figures of 3/16 from seven overs. Following these two bowlers, Mohammed Shami got five wickets, finishing with a 5/18, and Jadeja claimed the final wicket. In just 19.4 overs, Sri Lanka was dismissed for a meager 55 runs. The Indian speed attack was so impressive that the Sri Lankans never looked like they could get close to the target.

The last two ICC ODI World Cup matches saw India overcome South Africa, igniting a long-standing rivalry between the two countries. India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their most recent match, which took place in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Proteas will be looking to win this game in order to advance to the semifinals. The Men in Blue will keep winning this world cup on the sidelines.
