On July 9, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai hosted the third Twenty20 International between India Women and South Africa Women.
After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first. Despite giving up 30 runs in five overs and sending Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp back for nine and ten runs, respectively, the home team was able to dominate the powerplay. When Deepti Sharma struck and Tazmin Britz left the game after 20 runs, Anneke Bosch and Britz began to establish a partnership.
Bosch made every effort to keep the innings intact, but she was caught plumb in front of the wicket with 17 runs after failing to tuck a fuller ball on the leg side. With ten overs completed, the Proteas were at 61 for 4. Following Bosch’s termination, the group disintegrated as Radha Yadav joined the fray. The South African batting order was completely destroyed by her and Arundhati Reddy, losing six wickets in a matter of only 23 runs.

With the ball, Pooja Vastrakar shone, taking four wickets in 3.1 overs while only allowing 13 runs to be scored. Yadav gave her plenty of help as she took three wickets in as many overs while only managing to score a pitiful six runs. India was chasing an easy target of just 85 runs in 20 overs when Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil, and Deepti Sharma chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Mandhana continues her purple patch with half-century
Indian openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, who were chasing, did not give the visitors a chance to sneak up on them and instead played traditional cricket by avoiding risky strokes. They scored forty runs during the powerplay, and halfway through, South Africa’s shoulders buckled. Mandhana continued her great run, scoring 54 in just 40 deliveries with eight boundaries and two maximums, while Verma stayed undefeated with 27 in 25 balls with three boundaries. India took 10 of their 10 wickets intact as they chased down the mark in 10.5 overs.
