Watch: South Africa concede10 runs off the first ball vs Bangladesh

On Wednesday, October 30, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, South Africa got off to a terrible start with the ball after amassing a massive first innings score against Bangladesh. They gave up 10 runs off the first delivery.

On Day 2, spin-bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy struck an incredible half-century, but his side was penalised for sprinting down the field during his knock. Bangladesh began their innings at 5/0 after South Africa declared at 575/6, thanks to a five-run penalty given to their opponents.

A good opening delivery from Kagiso Rabada shaped away from left-hander Shadman Islam, who let it pass through to the wicketkeeper. However, Kyle Verreynne’s full-stretch dive was unable to stop the ball, and the South African spearhead lost his radar on the second delivery as he slipped one way down the leg-side. Rabada overstepped, making it worse, as the ball sped to the boundary, allowing the hosts to hit 10 runs one delivery into their innings.

On Day 2, South Africa is still in control of the proceedings.

David Bedingham and Tony de Zorzi led South Africa with a dominant 307/2 early in the day. Before being removed, the latter scored a smooth 59 from 78 balls. De Zorzi also collapsed for a career-high 177 from 269 deliveries a few overs later. Additionally, Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton fell quickly after each other as South Africa went from 386/2 to 423/6.

Between 450 and 480, Bangladesh would have hoped to bowl out the tourists, but Wiaan Mulder and Muthusamy had different plans. They stopped the Bangladeshi bowlers with an incredible partnership of 152 runs off 186 balls. Muthusamy was not out at 68 off 75 deliveries, and Mulder was still undefeated at 105 off 150 balls.

Rabada’s spectacular comeback from the terrible start with the ball was demonstrated when he got rid of Shadman off the fifth ball of the opening over. In his third over, the right-arm bowler defeated Zakir Hasan and claimed his second wicket. Keshav Maharaj and Dane Paterson, both South African spin duos, entered the party after eliminating Hasan Mahmud and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, respectively.

At 38/4 at the end of Day 2, Bangladesh was still 537 runs behind South Africa’s first-inning total. Najmul Hossain Shanto,

The captain, and Mominul Haque were undefeated at Stumps. The first goal for Bangladesh should be to reach 338 runs so that South Africa can bat again during the Test match.
