Sourav Ganguly has hinted at the prospect of joining the Delhi Capitals on a full-time basis. Currently serving as the Director of Cricket for JSW Sports, the franchise’s co-owner, is the former Indian captain. Throughout the previous season, Sourav Ganguly made references to his backend and ceremonial role. This is because the franchise has two owners.
“The adventure has been amazing. Across teams, including the WPL, I have been active with the Delhi Capitals franchise. Although I wasn’t in the dugout for two years, I worked more behind the scenes last season, creating squads, organising auctions, and monitoring performances,” Sourav Ganguly said, as reported by NDTV Sports.
Additionally, he acknowledged DC co-owner and chairman Parth Jindal’s contribution to the team and alluded to a potential partnership with DC for the 19th IPL season.
“I played a major role in determining DC’s course when Parth took over the franchise in 2019, and the group did a fantastic job. After talking with Parth, I made the decision to give Pretoria Capitals my whole attention for a month, which included participating in daily operations, handling wins and losses, and helping out at the auction. This is the reason I’m working with the team full-time this year, and I’ll be involved throughout the next IPL season,” he continued.
JSW Sports and the GMR Group jointly control DC. Over the course of two years, the franchise is managed by the two. After long-time DC coach Ricky Ponting left before the 2025 IPL, Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao were named the team’s head coach and director of cricket, respectively.
Sourav Ganguly has been actively associated with DC’s two subsidiary teams in the interim, namely the Pretoria Capitals SA20 team and the Delhi Capitals Women Women’s Premier League team.
Up until today, DC has failed to win any IPL games. They will attempt to go all the way this time around with the right acquisitions and retentions in the auction.
