According to former captain Sourav Ganguly, the favorites to go to the semifinals of the 2018 ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5, are Australia, England, and India. New Zealand should never be written off, he continued, and he hopes Pakistan advances to the following round so that the spectators can witness the customary drama between India and Pakistan.

Notably, if India faced Pakistan in the semifinals, the game would take place at the Eden Gardens in Sourav’s home city of Kolkata. He is excited about the possibility of an India-Pakistan matchup at the illustrious Eden Gardens, though.

It’s pretty challenging to say. England, Australia, and India. New Zealand should never be taken lightly in these crucial contests. Pakistan will be included in my list of five nations. Pakistan better qualify (laughs) for the semifinal match between India and Pakistan to take place at the Eden Gardens, according to Ganguly, as quoted by RevSportz.

Sourav Ganguly talks about how India has struggled in important competitions.

The former cricketer claims the Indian players are not under any mental stress since they are so good at it, but he also points out that they have a poor track record of doing well under pressure. The coach stated that he believes the players can handle the pressure because the team will be under some strain because the event is being played in India this time.

There is always going to be pressure. As with their prior games, there was pressure. Rohit Sharma scored five hundreds during the most recent ODI World Cup. I have no doubt that he was under pressure back then. The pressure is not an issue. I’m confident they’ll be successful. When Rahul Dravid was a player, there was pressure on him to succeed, and now that he is the head coach, there is expectation that he will perform. There is no getting around that, and I don’t think pressure is an issue.

We occasionally do poorly during crucial moments. In my perspective, execution is more important than mental effort. They have strong cognitive abilities. I’m hoping they’ll get to the finish line soon,” added Ganguly.
