On February 19, 2025, the Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin. Venues in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates will host the month-long competition. After a long eight-year break, the main event is making a comeback.
Sourav Ganguly, a former Indian cricket player, predicted ahead of time that India will be a formidable opponent at the prestigious competition. The renowned captain also believed that Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, will give it his all during the competition.
“After their results in the 50-over World Cup and the T20 World Cup, I believe India is a contender for the Champions Trophy. However, they will need to improve their Test cricket skills, especially when playing away from home. In white-ball cricket, Rohit is outstanding.
When the Champions Trophy begins, you’ll witness a different Rohit Sharma,” Sourav Ganguly said in an interview with RevSportz on Monday, January 20.
He also talked about the future of star batsman Virat Kohli in white-ball cricket at the same event. The former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India said he was taken aback by how Kohli’s recent Australian tour went. In the Champions Trophy, the former captain was sure that Kohli will return to his peak run-scoring form.
India will play Bangladesh to begin their Champions Trophy campaign. On Saturday, the 15-person team for the eight-nation competition was made public. The national setup has had great success with the event’s last two iterations. India won the 2013 tournament under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. In the next tournament in 2017, they lost to bitter rivals Pakistan and finished as runners-up.
Expectations would be high for the team chosen for the Champions Trophy, given the instability Indian cricket has seen in recent months. High-profile players in both the bowling and batting departments seem to be packed into the squad. Like Ganguly, the majority of the cricket community would anticipate that India would win this time.
