Soumya Sarkar, an experienced opener, returns to the team, and wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon receives his first ODI call-up as the Tigers attempt to recover from their disheartening 3-0 thumping at the hands of Afghanistan earlier this month. Bangladesh’s forthcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which begins on October 18 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, has been revealed.
Bangladesh just lost a series sweep against Afghanistan in their ODI match, losing by a significant 200 runs in the final. Two changes were made to the team that played Afghanistan by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in response.
Mahidul Islam Ankon takes the place of bowler Nahid Rana, and Soumya Sarkar replaces top-order batsman Mohammad Naim Sheikh.
Naim was in poor form during the previous series; he only scored 23 runs in the last ODI before losing by slip. Nahid Rana, however, was unable to make an impression with the ball and was unable to finish his last over because of fitness issues. With three hundreds and thirteen fifties among his 2,198 runs at an average of 32.80 in 76 One-Day Internationals, Soumya Sarkar last played for Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy in February. He missed the T20I series against Afghanistan because of a delayed visa, which prolonged his absence from the most recent series.
One of the most talented local performers in Bangladesh, Mahidul Islam Ankon, will be joining him. Although he hasn’t played an ODI yet, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter made his debut for his country in a Test match against South Africa last year. He was called up due to his outstanding play in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where he averaged 46.86 over the previous two seasons, with one hundred and ten fifties.
Senior batsman and T20I captain Liton Das is still out for Bangladesh, meanwhile, as he is still recovering from a side strain he suffered during the Asia Cup. With the T20I series coming up later this month, the team management has made the decision not to take the chance of hastening his recuperation.
Despite recent setbacks, the selectors kept players like Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali, and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, captain, and Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam continue to lead the spin department. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed are still part of the pace attack.
