Snehasis Ganguly, president of the CAB, proposes that the GCA adopt Eden Gardens' rain management system.

Snehasis Ganguly, president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), believes that the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) should implement a ‘completely covered rain management system’ similar to that of Eden Gardens. After the venue hosted the Indian Premier League 2023 final for a second consecutive year on May 29, a number of concerns were voiced regarding the drainage system. In a similar vein, Snehasis Ganguly suggested that the GCA adopt Eden Gardens’ rain management system.

The match between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings was postponed until the following day due to rain. Additionally, there was no respite on the second day as rainwater seeped into the side wickets despite the groundsmen’s efforts to dry the areas. After a significant delay, the grand final was subsequently reduced to 15 overs.

However, speaking on the subject, the president of the CAB believes that these issues are not significant and can be resolved over time. If the GCA considers the available options, this problem will not persist for long, and the venue will be prepared to host the ODI world cup final later this year. Interestingly, English grounds use Hover cover instead of the conventional plastic cover to safeguard the side wickets.

Similar to Eden Gardens, if GCA has a provision for this, they will be able to solve this issue. Snehasis Ganguly

Snehasis Ganguly also praised the amenities at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Additionally, Snehasis Ganguly emphasized that every day is a learning opportunity. Due to the fact that the terrain is new, correcting these issues will not take more than two months.

“The delay was caused by wet side wickets.” It’s a brand-new stadium, so I’m certain the issue will be resolved in due time. It is not a major concern. If they encompass the entire area, this problem will no longer exist. It is an educational procedure. Daily, you are gaining knowledge. I am confident they will have it prior to the World Cup. If GCA, like Eden Gardens, has a provision for this (full coverage), they will be able to solve this issue. They have every facility,” said Ganguly to PTI.

Regarding cost, “Two years ago, when they replaced the equipment, it cost them approximately Rs 80 lakh.” In just two months, if they decide to implement it, it will be operational. It will provide them with double protection,” concluded the CAB president.

In the meantime, Eden Gardens in Kolkata is the first venue in India to feature a completely covered rain management system. Notably, along with the Wankhede Stadium, the iconic ground was recognized as the premier destination for the IPL 2023.
