In the three-match ODI series against Ireland Women, the focus has been on the Indian women’s hitters. In the last and final ODI, India’s captain Smriti Mandhana made an outstanding impression with a century, hitting 168.75 runs off just 80 deliveries, including 12 fours and seven soaring sixes.
Mandhana was certain that she would turn her beginnings into a major knock in the series decider after hitting 41 and 73 in the first and second games of the series, respectively. She continued her incredible run of form by leading from the front and recording her tenth century in the format. Breaking the record set by her senior and regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who achieved the milestone off just 87 balls during a home series against South Africa in 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, this was the fastest-ever century by an Indian batter in WODIs, reaching the milestone off just 70 balls.
