Smriti Mandhana Reclaims ODI Batting No.1 Position

After hitting a half-century in Sunday’s opening ODI against Australia, India batswoman Smriti Mandhana has taken back the top spot in the ICC rankings for women’s ODI batters.

Smriti Mandhana surpassed England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt at the top of the standings with a 58 from 63 balls. After their half-centuries, Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield are tied for 25th place, while Beth Mooney of Australia also moved up three spots to fifth.

With eight wickets and 35 balls remaining, Australia managed to chase down their 282-run mark in New Chandigarh. On Wednesday, the teams play the second of three ODIs.

Smriti Mandhana has now topped the ODI batting rankings for the fourth consecutive time.

Before Sciver-Brunt surpassed her, she achieved so for the first time in January 2019 and most recently in July. The other Indian batters in the top 20 are Jemimah Rodrigues (15th) and Harmanpreet Kaur (12th).

Kim Garth and Alana King of Australia reached their highest-ever bowling rankings of fourth and fifth, respectively. Sneh Rana, an offspinner for India, rose five spots to 16th after taking 1 for 51.

With Deepti Sharma at number seven and the only Indian in the top ten, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone remains at the top of the ODI bowling rankings.
