In the face of growing competition, Smriti Mandhana, who captained the reigning winners, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, is sure her squad would perform admirably.
On February 14, 2025, the third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the top women’s franchise cricket league, will go out for yet another exciting season. On Disney+ Hotstar’s Superstars: War of Words, the main players from each of the five franchises are talking about the upcoming season as they aim for the championship trophy.
“The competition is fierce and expanding; there isn’t just one squad. I can’t choose one team to focus on because you noticed the gap between the first and second seasons. We all want to perform well and give women’s cricket a fantastic display.
We’ll concentrate on executing the most basic tasks perfectly this season and avoid planning too far ahead,” Smriti Mandhana stated.
The Delhi Capitals, the runners-up from the previous season, are intent on improving this year. In T20s, Jemimah Rodrigues underlined the value of readiness and flexibility.
“We can’t take any team lightly because this is T20 cricket, where anything can happen. The most crucial thing is to concentrate on the things we can control, like being well-prepared and performing effectively. I will leave it in the hands of others because, as much as I would like to, I cannot control the outcome. However, I can promise you that we will keep playing fantastic cricket,” Jemimah said.
The Mumbai Indians, who won the first season, will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, who wants to return the championship to a city that has a long history of successful franchise cricket.
Our primary goal as cricket players is to perform well and contribute to the team’s victory. A lot occurs off the pitch; we all support particular teams, and we experience particular emotions when they play. However, none of that matters when you’re in the centre. The MI captain stated, “It’s just about helping the team fight to the end and win the trophy.”
“Being able to stay in the present will benefit us, but we don’t want to do anything extra or unique. We did a lot of things correctly in the first season. The second season proved difficult. We’ll play the same style of cricket this time around and attempt to recall the highlights of our championship-winning campaign,” she continued.
Home support will be vital to the UP Warriorz’s campaign as they attempt to make their first-ever Final appearance, according to Deepti Sharma. “Having a home crowd is a big thing for us—it will give us a lot of support,” Deepti stated. We’ll attempt to make it to the Final this time, as we’ve never done it before.”
Harleen Deol is keen to play in familiar surroundings, and the Gujarat Giants will be ready to make an impression. For us as well, it will be home conditions. We played in Bengaluru the last time, so this would be fantastic.”
