SL vs WI: SLC announce 3rd ODI 'Pink Ribbon Day' to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has declared Saturday’s third One-Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and the West Indies at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium to be “Pink Ribbon Day.”

As a sign of their support for breast cancer awareness campaigns, Sri Lankan athletes wore pink ribbons during the game.

West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and chose to field first in the series-ending match, which has already seen the hosts win the series after winning the first two games. The match started under gloomy circumstances. Rain quickly halted the game, though, and caused a delay in its progress.

Due to the ongoing rain, the third ODI between Sri Lanka and the West Indies was interrupted.

The hosts have performed admirably throughout the series in spite of the weather difficulties. After defeating India in the ODI series in August, the squad entered this series and has since dominated the Caribbean team in both the batting and bowling areas.

Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando’s opening partnership gave the game a strong start; Nissanka is still undefeated at 44 off 53 deliveries, while Fernando added 34 before losing to Roston Chase. The game was halted at 81/1 in 17.2 overs because of the intense rain.

In the meantime, Wanindu Hasaranga has taken six wickets so far, and captain Charith Asalanka has struck back-to-back half-centuries in the previous games, making the series especially noteworthy for him.

Even though the West Indies lost the series, Sherfane Rutherford’s bat and Gudakesh Motie’s economical bowling have shown some promise.

Hope, their captain, had earlier asked for development in their spin bowling department and stressed the necessity for his batters to have more positive purpose.
