Twitter Reactions: Sri Lanka defeats Thailand to secure a semi-final spot in the 2024 Women's Asia Cup

By a margin of 10 wickets, Sri Lanka defeated Thailand to advance to the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 semifinals. The team captained by Chamari Athapaththu once again performed admirably at the bat and bowl, putting up a tight show at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.

Thailand was slow to get going, bat first. Nattaya Boochatham, the seasoned opener, was out of the game with the first ball. Nannapat Koncharoenkai and Aphisara Suwanchonrathi attempted to form a partnership, however the former was removed after making 12 runs. But Nannapat made sure the scoreboard never stopped. She demonstrated that she was a one-woman army with hardly any assistance from the other end. Thailand scored a decent 93 runs in the first innings thanks to the 23-year-old’s 47 runs off 53 deliveries.

Kavisha Dilhari, a bowler from Sri Lanka, had a respectable performance, taking two wickets in her four overs while only allowing 13 runs to be scored. One wicket apiece was taken by Achini Kulasuriya, Sugandika Kumari, Inoshi Priyadharshani, and skipper Athapaththu.

The hosts had it too easy when it came to the chase. Vishmi Gunaratne and Athapaththu appeared unbreakable as they completed the task with total ease. Sri Lanka won easily, and none of Thailand’s strategies proved to be an obstacle. Athapathu, who recently made history by becoming the first female cricket player to score a century in the T20 Asia Cup, amassed 49* runs in 35 deliveries, while Gunaratne, who is 18 years old, made 39* runs in 34 deliveries.

In the meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will square off in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 second semifinal. Bangladesh will be played by Harmanpreet Kaur’s India, on the other hand. The final is set to take place in Dambulla on Sunday, July 28. Both semi-finals are slated to take place on July 26.

X, the former Twitter, was particularly lively following Sri Lanka’s 10-wicket win over Thailand.
