Watch: Mohammed Siraj play mind games with Marnus Labuschagne, flip bails at striker's end

At the historic Gabba in Brisbane, on Day 2 of the second Test, Mohammed Siraj’s antics once again took front stage when he attempted to disrupt Marnus Labuschagne’s focus by flicking the bails at the striker’s end. But when he replaced the bails, the batter from Australia had none of it.

On Sunday, December 15, the interesting incidence happened during the 33rd over of the Australian innings. In the opening session on Day 2, Labuschagne was playing a dogged knock while avoiding some near misses. After bowling a delivery and flipping the bails, Siraj made an attempt to enter the batter’s head as he passed him at the striker’s end.

Marnus Labuschagne immediately turned them over again as Mohammed Siraj moved to face his target.

The enthusiastic audience at the scenic location came alive after seeing the turn of events since they were enthralled with the gamesmanship that was demonstrated.

Superstition pays off as India gets Labuschagne in the next over. Labuschagne attempted to play an expansive drive to a delivery that Nitish Kumar Reddy threw full and outside the off-stump, but his sluggish knock ended in the next over. At second slip, Virat Kohli successfully pouched the right-handed batter’s heavy outside edge.

With 12 runs off 55 balls, Labuschagne had to make the long walk back to the hut. Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney left early on Day 2 and this was the third wicket the hosts had lost in the morning session. Steve Smith and Labuschagne’s 37-run partnership was slowly beginning to seem bleak for India, but the outstanding Nitish came through just in time. Some might argue that Siraj’s antics were fruitful because, up until that time, the 30-year-old batter had appeared to be quite patient.
