Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Shubman Gill keeps Punjab in contest with superb fifty at Chinnaswamy

At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Punjab is currently leading Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy 2024–25 match, led by star batsman Shubman Gill. Following a massive 420-run deficit before the start, the Punjab side once again suffered collapse in the second innings after recording a pitiful total in the first, with the entire team being bowled out for just 55 runs.

The Punjab captain kept grinding in his own way, preventing an innings loss at Chinnaswamy despite losing six wickets for a mere 84 runs. Gill made a strong return to domestic cricket by reaching his half-century in the 46th over of the innings. He is currently batting with Mayank Markande, and his knock includes seven fours and one maximum. As of this writing, the scorecard stands at 110/6.

Shubman Gill, who had been struggling with a lackluster performance and had left for a low score early in the game, would feel more confident after the knock.

Following his final half-century in November 2024, Gill was unable to perform well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 in Australia. Therefore, for the Punjab batter, scoring a lot of runs in the Ranji Trophy would undoubtedly be a significant half-century.

As India gets ready for the three ODIs against England and the vital ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Gill’s return to form also becomes essential. Additionally, Gill will be under additional pressure to perform well on the big stage because he was chosen the team’s vice-captain for the aforementioned missions.

Shardul Thakur of Mumbai counterpunches J&K bowlers with the ball.

Regarding other Ranji matches, Mumbai, who are playing Jammu & Kashmir, has set a goal of 205 runs to win after Shardul Thakur proved to be the home team’s batting hero in both innings. The match was played at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, in Mumbai, where Thakur gave the Ajinkya Rahane-led team hope with a spectacular century in the second innings after hitting 51 in the first.
