“I will not rush him,” says Bhupinder Singh Sr, a former India selection, about talk of Shubman Gill taking over for Rohit Sharma.

"I will not rush him," says Bhupinder Singh Sr, a former India selection, about talk of Shubman Gill taking over for Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill, a star batsman for India, is having a great time at his job right now. In the first two months of 2023, the 23-year-old has made hundreds in all three types of cricket, including a double-hundred in ODIs. Gill also scored 890 runs in 17 innings in the IPL 2023, which earned him the prized Orange Cap as the tournament’s top run scorer.

With talk of changing India’s leadership after 2023 and Rohit Sharma, who is 36, not getting any younger, Gill could be the next captain of India. But Bhupinder Singh Sr, who was a selection from 2005 to 2008, thinks it’s too soon to give him the job because he could be India’s next big batting star.

“I won’t push him right now because we want him to be the next great batsman in the country. If everything goes well, which I’m sure it will, he could become the next big hitter in this country. He’s got that game, that vibe, and that attitude. Singh told the Hindustan Times, “In the process, we can see him grow into a good captain as well.”

Shubman Gill also said that the young man should first prove that he belongs on the team before being given the job of leading.

“First of all, he should keep his spot on the team no matter what kind of pick you’re making. You are sure that he won’t hurt the team in the next couple of years. “The team’s captain has to be able to do his share,” he said.

Shubman Gill first Test match against Australia was a hit with everyone.

Shubman Gill made his international debut in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2019, but he didn’t do very well because Trent Boult got rid of him on 9/21. During the historic Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2020–21, he played his first Test match against Australia. He got 259 runs in six innings, with an average of 51.80 and two fifties.

On the last day of the fourth Test at Gabba, a batsman from Punjab scored 91 runs, which helped India reach their goal of 328 in the fourth innings.
