Despite being a new IPL franchise, the Gujarat Titans have already garnered a fan base thanks to a number of well-known players. Shubman Gill, who will be guiding the franchise in the forthcoming event for the second time, is the team’s main star. The 25-year-old talked candidly about his early encounters with Sachin Tendulkar and his father prior to the event. Gill also spoke of Glenn Maxwell’s presence and how, as a boy, he would toss balls to them during practice. He also claimed that the God of Cricket was the source of his inspiration to play cricket.
“I recall going to three or four games at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula with my dad. The Mumbai Indians visited there to practice during the second or third year of the IPL. At the time, I was maybe nine or ten years old. I even have a picture of Glenn Maxwell and Sachin Sir. During their practice, I began tossing them balls. These are a few of my first IPL recollections. Despite my considerable nervousness, I was already aware of Sachin Sir. I started playing cricket because of him. His biggest admirer is my father. We had Sachin Tendulkar posters in our village, despite my dad’s lack of interest in posters,” he stated on JioHotstar.
Shubman Gill thinks leadership is an ongoing process.
Shubman Gill also discussed his leadership development in the same interview. In addition, he discussed his experience as captain, the key elements that have aided in his development, and how he has learnt to manage the team’s players.
“I think becoming a leader is a lifelong process. Every week and every match gives you new insights. Players offer a variety of viewpoints that teach you about themselves as well as leadership. Understanding what motivates each player to provide their best effort is crucial for leaders. Since each participant is unique, leadership is about properly managing them. It’s critical to understand their advantages and disadvantages as well as how to help them regain their form when they’re having trouble. You develop as a leader when you play more because you have more experience through highs and lows,” Gill said.
“Having one-on-one discussions with teammates is crucial. At first, I wasn’t the kind to strike up conversations like that, but as a leader, I started to make an attempt. It’s critical to speak with the athletes, get their perspective, and make sure they feel appreciated. The GT captain continued, “When a team leader reaches out, it gives the players confidence and helps create a strong team environment.”
