According to Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma is not considering retiring.

Ahead of India’s eagerly awaited Champions Trophy 2025 final match against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9, batsman Shubman Gill gave a huge update on Rohit Sharma’s cricketing future. The Indian vice-captain affirmed that Rohit did not speak with either the team or himself the night before the top match.

Gill reportedly returned to the media room during the venue’s pre-match press conference to reaffirm that he was unaware of Rohit’s intentions to retire from the 50-over format.

“Up until now, we have just talked about winning the Champions Trophy and the match. He hasn’t discussed this with the team or with me. “I don’t believe Rohit is considering it,” Gill said on Saturday, March 8.

Additionally, Rohit’s deputy shared his thoughts on how he believed the Dubai deck would perform in the last match on Sunday.

“The wicket won’t act any differently, in my opinion. We haven’t really seen a 300-run score here yet, and I believe the wicket will be comparable to what we’ve been playing on regardless of the weather. And I believe that as a squad, we have a solid understanding of how to bowl and play on those types of wickets,” Gill said.

On Sunday, India and New Zealand will play at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue prevailed by 44 runs in their previous meeting, which took place during the season’s group stage. In Group A, India and New Zealand finished first and second, respectively.

There is undoubtedly pressure associated with important matches: Shubman Gill

The Punjabi native said he was excited for the championship match. He also went into detail on the strain of expectations in these high-stress games and the list of things a team should do to increase their chances of winning.

“I am ecstatic. This is the second final and my second ICC event for Team India. Without a doubt, I am thrilled. We will attempt to do it this time, I believe, as we were unable to do it the last time. There is undoubtedly pressure from important games. However, if we were to focus only on Australia’s bowling attack, as we seen in the most recent game, they lacked experience. But there was pressure because it was a big contest. Therefore, the side that performs well under pressure, removes the occasion from the game, and doesn’t act like they’re in the final has a better chance of winning in these kinds of games,” Shubman Gill continued.

The cricket player also discussed the need of experience in pivotal matches like the 2025 Champions Trophy final.

“In the most recent game, we watched Virat. due to the fact that he has participated in numerous crucial games for India, as well as numerous finals and semifinals. You are aware that you have previously done this the more you have been under strain and the more you are in that circumstance. You are aware of the game’s pattern. Thus, seasoned players are undoubtedly helpful,” he said.
