India is participating in the Duleep Trophy 2024. In an exclusive interview with JioCinema, skipper Shubman Gill expressed his opinions. The top-order batsman talked about the Duleep Trophy’s competitiveness, his performance versus England, the difficulties of batting at number three, and his expectations for the forthcoming Bangladesh series.
Gill discussed his experience competing against his teammates in the domestic league as a bowler and batter. He continued by saying that it creates a fantastic environment for players and is very competitive.
The 24-year-old said, “It’s going to be fun,” in reference to the Duleep Trophy’s competitive nature. We frequently discuss playing against one another as a team when we’re together, and this is a fantastic chance for both batters and bowlers. There will be a great atmosphere and some competition.”
“That was a big confidence boost for me, especially after losing the first Test match,” Shubman Gill continued when discussing his performance in the England Test series.
We were under pressure to win the series because a number of players were out. It was an interesting experience for me to play five Test matches because I had never done so before. After two Test matches, we took breaks, but we never lost that intensity.”
Concerning the difficulties of batting third in Tests, “Everyone knows your potential when you play a different position, but you still have to establish yourself quite a bit. I struggled to perform well against South Africa and the West Indies in my first three-match stint. Even though I was getting off to strong starts and scoring in the 20s and 30s, I couldn’t finish them. I knew I had to improve these performances as soon as I got back. My objective is to turn my fifties into big hundreds in the future.”
Gill discussed the impending Bangladesh series while avoiding undervaluing the Asian side and stressing the importance of every international match. Bangladesh will be looking to challenge India after their impressive performance against Pakistan recently.

Regarding the anticipated Bangladesh series, “I don’t think you can undervalue any international side.” In the past few months, Bangladesh has played some impressive cricket, particularly in Pakistan. It would be foolish to ignore their fast bowlers and the way their middle-order hitters have absorbed pressure. Thus, I think it will be a fascinating and engaging competition.”
