Shubman Gill, the star batsman for India, is probably going to miss the opening Test of the three-match series against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Over the past two days, the 25-year-old has primarily spent his training time at the physiotherapist’s table due to a stiff neck. During the pre-match news conference, neither Rohit Sharma nor the BCCI made any comments regarding the matter, as the team management is prepared to wait till the very last minute to make a choice.
Sarfaraz Khan is anticipated to return to the playing XI if Shubman Gill is benched, according to a Hindustan Times article.
The 26-year-old played his first Test match against England earlier this year. He scored 200 runs at an average of 50 in three Test matches throughout the five-match series. He played in the Duleep Trophy recently for India B, but the flashy batsman was unable to make an impression with three innings of scores of 9, 46, and 16.
He did, however, strike a double-century that won the match for Mumbai against the rest of India in the Irani Cup. In Gill’s absence, Rohit might even bat Sarfaraz at number three since he appreciates what he brings to the table. Sarfaraz, after Rishabh Pant, can bat at number six, while KL Rahul can also be an option.
