Twitter Reactions: Shubman Gill leaves Rajkot for duck after failing to make progress on the Vizag Ton

Shubman Gill left for a duck off nine deliveries on the first morning of the third Test in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15, following a crucial century in the second innings of the second Test in Vizag.

Prior to the commencement of the second Test, Gill was having difficulty scoring runs in red-ball cricket. After being removed for 34 in the opening over, he hammered a century off 147 balls in the second. After this knock, the Punjabi batter would have wanted to get stronger. All he could do, though, was record his second duck of the series.

India would have wanted their two most seasoned front-line hitters, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, to form a significant partnership after they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early. But the young player appeared quite uneasy while facing England’s fast-bowling pair, Mark Wood and James Anderson. Wood gave the right-hand batter a big delivery off the fourth ball of the sixth over of the day, which angled in before nibbling away at the last second to induce the nick. Within the opening thirty minutes of the Test match, the tourists took their second wicket thanks to Ben Foakes’ accuracy behind the stumps.

Once again, Shubman’s average fell below 31, coming in at 30.79 after 1,201 runs in 42 innings in the game’s longest format. With a long history of reliable batsmanship, Gill has cemented himself as one of India’s most trustworthy players in the ODI format. He hasn’t, however, performed up to his standards in T20Is or tests.

Netizens harshly criticized the young batter after the 24-year-old was out for a duck for the sixth time in his international career.

This is how ‘X’ users responded to Shubman Gill’s most recent setback:

5⃣0⃣ for captain Rohit Sharma! 👏 👏

Looks like even if there is slightest of lateral movement, Gill will fall. Pushing hard at the ball, strong bottom hand not helping him. #ShubmanGill
