Shubman Gill is a special player who will be a fine leader: Kane Williamson

In 2024, Shubman Gill’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season was forgettable. Despite finishing sixth in the league, he was elected captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the first time. Although his captaincy was the subject of much criticism, the team supported him and kept him in that position before to the 2025 Indian Premier League season.

Kane Williamson, meanwhile, offered an alternative viewpoint of Shubman Gill.

According to the former Titans player, Gill had excellent communication abilities, which are crucial for a captain. According to Williamson, Gill possesses a “great cricketing brain” and some “strong leadership qualities”.

“He’s a really well-groomed individual. a brilliant cricketer who genuinely cares for his teammates. ESPNcricinfo quoted Williamson as saying, “There are no surprises that he’s touted for leadership for some of the Indian sides in the near future because he’s very sure on how he wants to go about his business, which I think is a really strong leadership quality and quite infectious.”

Gill was commended by Williamson for making the necessary effort to train as a young cricket player. Gill has kept himself in good shape, as seen by the manner he fields as well. In addition, he possesses a range of shots in his arsenal and is a good timer of the ball.

“His timing is something that really sticks out when you see him practise and play. He has plenty of time, regardless of whether the wicket is moving or not, and he remains motionless whether facing fast bowlers or moving the ball. He strikes the ball with extreme force in traditional places. “He has a lot of time and is a beautiful ball timer,” Williamson said.
