Reports: Shubman Gill doubtful to recover from finger injury in time for 2nd Test against Australia

It’s unclear if star Indian batsman Shubman Gill will play in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide. In addition to missing the first Test, the right-handed batsman is recuperating from a fractured left thumb that could keep him out of action for a long time.

Shubman Gill suffered the fracture while trying to make a catch during a match simulation versus India ‘A’ in Perth.

The young hitter should rest for 10–14 days, according to medical experts.

Even after the initial healing phase, Gill will need a lot of match practice before being selected, according to people close to the squad. As a result of Gill’s absence and Rohit Sharma’s previous unavailability, the squad has already had to rearrange its batting order.

I won’t be shocked if he skips two or three Test matches: Jatin Paranjape.

During India’s historic 295-run victory in the first series, Devdutt Padikkal filled in, scoring 0 and 25 in the two innings. Gill may miss two to three Test matches because of the nature of his thumb injury, according to former India selector Jatin Paranjape.

“I know from past experience that finger injuries, especially like the one he has suffered to the thumb take two to four weeks to heal, so don’t be surprised if he misses two to three Test matches,” Paranjape had told the Hindustan Times.

An important prelude to the pink-ball Test in Adelaide will be the forthcoming two-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI, which is set for November 30 to December 1. Gill will almost certainly miss this warm-up match, though.

Repositioning KL Rahul at No. 3 and having Rohit return to open the innings is one possible idea being examined. The young athlete has established himself as a vital all-format player since making his debut during India’s historic tour of Australia four years ago, during which he played a pivotal role in the famous Gabba Test.
