India won this week’s last Test at The Oval in London by six runs, tying the five-match series against England. Before the series, few observers thought Shubman Gill-led India had a chance. Prior to the series, stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli resigned from the longest format, leaving the Asian giants without their services. Because of the selectors’ concerns regarding Mohammed Shami’s fitness, he was not chosen. But the young side drew the series and battled fire with fire.
Danish Kaneria, a former spinner for Pakistan, praised the Indian supporters for sticking by the side no matter what. Additionally, he praised Shubman Gill for taking the team by storm. On the last morning of the Test match, Kaneria also spoke about the choice to not take the new ball. With a five-for, Mohammed Siraj gave India an exciting win.
Since it was Shubman Gill’s first series as captain, it was significant.
“Congratulations to the audience for creating the impression that the game was being played in India. Throughout the trip, Shubman Gill led admirably, and India benefited greatly from his tactical genius on the last day. His choice to stick with the traditional bowl was very advantageous to India. One of his main motivations is to draw a series abroad with a young squad.
Although there will always be questions, I believe he has the potential to become an excellent captain in the long run. He will learn a lot in the future. “It’s a good start to his captaincy career, and he handled the pressure brilliantly,” Kaneria told IANS.
Shubman Gill batted excellently throughout the series in addition to impressing with his captaincy qualities. In 10 innings, he scored 754 runs at an incredible average of 75.40. Including a double century in the Test series, he finished with four hundreds. Alongside Harry Brook, the Punjab hitter was named Player of the Series.
